Network Building

Confluence

Confluence is a gathering of narrative practitioners, storytellers and funders committed to building narrative power for global justice movements. In 2023 the event took place in Bogotá, Colombia and was hosted by IRIS, Puentes and the Global Narrative Hive. Approximately 120 participants attended, representing diverse movements and funding institutions. Confluence offers a space for deep listening and relationship‑building, allowing participants to collectively imagine shared objectives, coordinate strategies across regions and disciplines, and prioritize process over predetermined outputs.

Discussions at Confluence emphasized the need for sustained infrastructure to support narrative change work: resources to train storytellers, evaluate impact, and fund creative interventions. Participants also highlighted the importance of cross‑movement solidarity, especially between labor rights campaigns and other struggles for social and environmental justice. Through Confluence and its accompanying report and videos, Future of Workers draws lessons about how to strengthen the narrative ecosystem and build a collaborative network of practitioners.
