Gig Workers United Summit

The Gig Workers United Summit (GWUS) took place in Geneva alongside the 113th International Labor Conference in June 2025, creating a historic gathering of grassroots platform workers from 28 countries across six continents. The summit centered the voices of women, migrants and workers from the Global South, highlighting the diverse experiences of riders, warehouse workers, drivers, care workers and data labelers. Participants came together to ensure that international labor standards for platform work reflect the realities of those most affected by digital capitalism and algorithmic management.

GWUS was intentionally structured around three core objectives:

  1. Build global worker solidarity. The summit connected organizers across borders to share strategies, resources and experiences, laying the groundwork for a long‑term, worker‑led movement.
  2. Advance a common set of demands. Delegates discussed priorities such as recognition of employment status, fair pay and safety protections, worker control over technology and algorithmic management, and gender equity in the platform economy.
  3. Craft a shared narrative. Participants worked to identify common values and craft messages that articulate a unified vision of just platform work, ensuring that future regulations and the proposed ILO Convention reflect worker priorities.

By centering the experiences of platform workers and fostering transnational solidarity, GWUS embodies the network‑building ethos of Future of Workers. The summit’s materials—including videos, graphics and photographs—capture the energy of this inaugural gathering and serve as inspiration for ongoing campaigns.
